Casa Milà

Casa Milà—popularly known as La Pedrera—was Gaudí’s last civil work before he dedicated all of his time to La Sagrada Familia.

Originally a private residence, it’s now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, cultural center (did someone say jazz?), and home to a few lucky (read: very wealthy) families. Above several multi-million-dollar apartments lies L’Espai Gaudí, a mini-museum that contains small-scale models of the architect’s most famous buildings and provides visitors with valuable insights into his life and creative process.

Best things to see at Casa Milà

The guided tour also includes a journey through Casa Milà’s grand foyer and one of the apartments. In all honesty, though, the real magic of the building lives in its self-supporting, corrugated facade. Its undulating stones and iron balconies resemble a stone quarry, and together constitute a textbook example of Catalan modernism.
