A traditional wooden ship, an active volcano and orange clay hot springs. No, it’s not the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, but add Penelope Cruz to this fun-filled Greek excursion and it will feel pretty close. Daily boats depart from Santorini’s scenic Old Port, which can be accessed by steps descending the breathtaking cliffside of Fira, whether on foot or donkey. Visitors can choose from an array of increasingly extensive tours, from just the volcano to a full day of sightseeing with included sunset dinner and wine. After a short boat ride, climb the active volcano that created the island of Santorini and enjoy views of the strikingly blue water and the island itself from afar. Then travel to the nearby hot springs to jump off the boat and swim in the warm water. Be sure not to wear a light-colored swimsuit, since the thick clay may leave stains. The next optional stops include the neighboring island of Therasia and the water near Oia, where you’ll have a traditional Greek meal on board and watch the sun set over Santorini.
