The tour was very limited. It was mostly a walking lecture on the history of Venice, which was actually interesting, but not really what we signed up for. Getting on the gondolas at the end was a nightmare because of the number of people who took the tour. We waited in line for 30 minutes so be prepared that the whole tour may take a lot longer than you plan
If you want to feel like just another tourist that is only worth the money they spend while in town, this is the tour/ride for you. You will show up and herded along like cattle into your own individual tour group, hopefully you will get a good tour guide. My wife and I were not so lucky. Our tour guide was about as enthusiastic and engaging as a wet slice of bread. We saw some sights, learned some things but this was the least interesting tour we have had to date, and for teh cost it was simply unacceptable. Once you are done with the tour where it started you will meet back with the the previously separated group and will be give gondola tickets and then escorted by an equally unenthusiastic person from the office and lost the round of rock paper scisors. This is supposed to be the highlight as this is the iconic gondola ride through the canals. Well... be prepared to feel like cattle again as you are quite literally thrown onto a gondola with a few other people and the gondolier takes off. If you are more lucky than I hopefully your gondolier will at least say hi to you, or at the very least not spend the ENTIRE 25 minutes on their phone yelling at what I could only assume was his cable service provider disputing a charge on his account. For the price you can do much better. You can find cheaper higher quality tours and gondola rides anywhere else while inside the city. Would not recommend to anyone especially someone on their honeymoon.
Tour guide gave us a short back streets view of Venice around the square where you trade your paper ticket in for an audio receiver at the ticket office. Tour guide was very good and very knowledgeable. The guide then returns you to the ticket office where another leader takes you to a canal where many gondolas are waiting. It can be a little crazy getting into a gondola if it is busy. They will put in up to 6 people in one gondola so you may not get the "good seat". It's about an hour trip out to the Grand Canal and back along another canal to the starting point.
We were disappointed in the walking tour as it only took us to back alley unknown areas of Venice. Evie the tour guide was rude, wouldn't answer questions and continually raced ahead of the participants, some of whom were elderly and with canes, leaving us in her "dust".The Gondolier didn't seem to want to be with us, texted on his cell and talked to other gondoliers, ended the ride earlier than should have been at a closer stop, pointed out NOTHING. Expected to see more of Venice's spectacular sites and have a memorable gondola ride.It was NOT to be. Not worth our time and money.
The tour guide was very informative and the city was gorgeous. Loved evey minute of it. The gondola ride was also nice considering its normally a lot more.
